Here we are looking out to the Parramatta River over the Birkenhead Marina. The haze is due to smoke
arising from current bushfire hazard reduction burns in the Sydney Basin. If the wind is blowing
the wrong way, smoke from the fires can accumulate throughout the basin, reducing general
visibility. Actual industrial pollution in the Sydney area has in fact been dramatically improved
over the last 20 years.
