This hallway (galeria) runs around the interior air-shaft of the building. It runs from our front door, where this picture was taken, all the way around to the kitchen. There are french doors opening onto it from the both the living room and the main bedroom (the blue room shown here). Even the bathroom has a milk-glass window onto this hallway (on the left). I believe it was actually originally and interior balcony that was later enclosed
