Our beloved father and grandfather Bob ( Sarge) Boyett age 86 passed away on Sunday September 28, 2008 at St Francis Medical Center Monroe Louisiana.
Bob was born in Winnfield, Louisiana on December 6, 1921. He was the eldest son of slain Winn Parish Deputy Sheriff Robert E. Boyett & Marie Louise DeLussan.
He was a veteran of the Second World War, his career span 24 years before retiring from the United States Air Force as a Technical Sergeant. His career has been filled with many notable accomplishments. He attended and successfully graduated from a service academy such as the 20th Air Force NCO Academy. From February 12 1942 through July 4 1945 he received five Bronze Service Stars for service in Papua, New Guinea, Bismark-Archipelago, Leyte, and Luzon while assigned to the Asiatic-Pacific Theatre of Operations, in addition to the Philippine Liberation Metal and Unit Citation. During the period of March 7 1946 through August 24 1953 he served in Germany, Italy, and two tours in Okinawa. For that service he was awarded the Army of Occupation Medal, National Defense Service Metal, Korean Service Metal and the United Nations Service Metal. In addition, for exemplary behavior, devotion to duty and efficiency he was awarded the Good Conduct Metal with one silver loop.
For 29 months he had been assigned as flight line supervisor for an entire wing and had been instrumental in the commitments levied on his organization. That included two cross-switch rotations to Turkey.
Mr. Boyett was employed in the 1960s as a Campus security officer at Louisiana State University LSU.
His later joys consisted of watching Major League baseball; especially his beloved St Louis Cardinals win the World Series, PGA golf tours & his great grandchildren at play.
Mr. Boyett’s family roots dig deep into the heart of this area. The deceased was a member of the Boyett-James family which is one of the oldest pioneer families of this parish. Great grandparents Daniel Boyett & Thomas Jefferson James Sr. were some of the first settlers and land owners of Winn Parish in the 1850s. His great-great uncle Bennett J Boyett was gunned down by Mad Dog Smith in 1862. His father Robert Elijah Boyett was killed in the line of duty, by John E. Rayburn, a paroled convect from Leavenworth Pen. , in Kansas. Officer Boyett and Deputy Bryant Sholars were investigating the robbery of a Winnfield furniture store which had occurred in the early morning of May 1, 1926. They had gone to a romming house located at the corner of N. Grove and Broad Street when Rayburn open fire and killed officer Boyett.
Mr Boyett is preceded in death by his wife Luigia Facultosi, great grand daughter Angelique, grandparents John William Boyett and Cynthia Matilda James, Eugene DeLussan and Evelina Acosta.
He is survived by his brother Dale William Boyett. Two daughters Julie Roy & husband Joseph of Jacksonville, North Carolina. Susie Hodge & husband Vernon from West Monroe. Four granddaughters Jennifer, Cynthia, Jamie & Victoria. Great granddaughters Abigail & Desiree. Two great grandsons Brennan & Devin. His beloved niece and nephews Brenda, Scott and Mike.
A memorial service will be held at The Welcome Home Baptist Church in the Hudson community at a later date.
