At first glance, the Southern California desert may appear to be a seemingly desolate place as you speed by on the interstate.
It demands very little...hardly any water, scant shade or fertile soils. It is parched by the hot sun and dried by the evening winds.
And yet, for a brief time in the spring, if conditions are right, the desert gives back much more than it has taken...
