Sargassum (Sargassum agardhianum)

Point Loma

Foot-long, bushy branches of sargassum are seen in the rocky intertidal pools. This brown alga is easily recognized by its numerous grape-shaped, air-filled vesicles and small pinnate blades. These plants are relatives of the more tropical sargassum for which the Sargasso Sea of the Atlantic Ocean was named.
