Mont St-Michel. Normandie.

L’Abbaye du Mont-St-Michel fut édifiée par les bénédictins à partir du X ème siècle.
Au XII ème, à son apogée, son rayonnement intellectuel s’étendait sur tout l’Occident. Sa bibliothèque contenait des oeuvres de Caton l’Ancien, le Timée de Platon, des textes d’Aristote, de Cicéron, Virgile...
C’est l’un des monuments les plus visités de France et elle figure avec la baie qui l’entoure au patrimoine mondial de l’Unesco.


The Abbey of the Mont St-Michel was built by the Benedictines from X ème century.
In XII ème, in its peak, its intellectual brilliance extended over all the West. Its library contained works of Caton, Platon, Aristote, Ciceron, Virgile...
It is one of the places the most visited in France and, with the bay surrounding the mount, it is on the UNESCO world heritage List.
