Bradypus variegatus
We had lots of exciting birds today but for my photo for the day I decided to go with this Brown-throated Three-toed Sloth. We actually had some interesting non-bird encounters today including Alvaro’s Pygmy Squirrel, Hog-nosed Pit Viper and Smoky Jungle Frog. Some of the bird highlights include Gray-capped Flycatcher, Shining Honeycreeper, Tropical Parula, Central American Pygmy-Owl, Mottled Owl, Scale-crested Pygmy-Tyrant, White-ruffed Manakin, White-collared Manakin, Bicolored Antbird, Rufous Piha, Black-striped Sparrow, Golden-hooded Tanager, Red-lored Parrot and Common Pauraque.
The sloth was just sitting up in the tree looking so relaxed. When I looked at this photo I had to laugh because he looks like he has a huge smile on his face. I call it a he but I don’t really know if it is male or female. In any case it was fun seeing him and the other non-avian critters.
