20 track - 26 Aug. '67

Alpha Co. medic track after hitting a booby-trapped American 500 lb. bomb inside our perimeter. The Battalion Aid Station track is in the background. Don Scott, who was visiting at the Aid Station Forward when the track approached and then exploded, crawled inside immediately after the explosion to try to save Joe Lupo. Don was decorated for heroism for his courageous and selfless act.

In the Fall of '67 and Winter of '68 I had just graduated from Junction City HS. I was working as a civilian Orderly at Irwin Army Hospital, Ft. Riley. I distinctly recall a large number of 1st I/D casualties coming through - to the point of over capacity. I spoke to almost all. A very large number were "Mech" Grunts and had been wounded in one way or another around or in M 113's. Sorry I can't recall any names or sub units.
