It was a rough childhood, especially in the contested areas. I can't even imagine what they went through as they tried to survive with a war swirling around them. When our perimeter was set up in close proximity to a village the kids would line up as we prepared to move out and as we left they would search our perimeter for anything of value, even digging up the trash.
