Tom Hinger - Silver Star, 2 Purple Hearts

My friend Tom Hinger at the Battalion Aid Station in Lai Khe basecamp, March '68. He was among the best and the bravest. During the Battle of Ong Thanh Tom treated and brought wounded soldiers out of harm's way. His platoon suffered over 90% casualties. Despite being wounded himself, he risked his life over and over again. Tom is one of a kind and is liked and respected by all who know him.

I am working on a Legendary Locals of Latrobe book and would like to include Tom, but need a picture of him. Tom grew up in Latrobe, Pa. before he was drafted into the Army for a two-year tour and made a medic. I would appreciate any help or advice you can offer.

I wrote a story for The Ledger about Tom. He was and is a courageous, strong and brave man. As my jaw dropped during the interview, I realized there where more stories than I had ink in my pen. I remained spell-bound for the rest of the day. Millions of thanks to you, Tom for all that you did and continue to do for me and every other U.S. citizen. May God's blessings of peace be upon you every day.
