Any of you from the 1st Eng Bn remember a SP4 lead sweeper named Rejo(sp). He was from Cuba and I met him at Thunder I in late 1968.

I was Delta company 1st engineering BN and spent many day's sweeping and blowing mines along Hwy 13 and Claymore corner. We found many mines along tat stretch of the road. I found one under a vehicle fender that was almost missed and had a 500 pounder under it. Blew a nice hole. The convoys would have 5 ton dumps with a full load to fill the holes we blew. I was riding on one of the 5 ton dumps running boards back to our NDP when it hit a mine on the side of the road and took down a helicopter above us. My ears are still ringing from that one.

I was at Thunder Six and as a combat demo specialist with the 1st Engineer Bn. it was our job to find the mines and blow them to keep the road safe for convoys to travel.
