After a encountering a few undesired disengagements when using the cruise I found two possible problems. One was this brake switch that was used on the original Dana cruise. Since I used the existing wiring harness this switch provided the signal to indicate that the brakes were being applied. It was taken out of the circuit and replaced with a relay that follows the brake light switch from the brake treadle
