Awesome vibrant color and texture in the flower petals. What makes this special though is the context of the shot, with the background as it is. With the flower being the truely colorful object in the shot, I can understand how adjusting the contrast later in post really made it pop.

Yes, that background really sets a sense of place within the scene. jano

Thank you for the clear explanation of what I was looking for, Rod. I was hoping to see ways we can come up with pleasing photos on those "blah" gray days. Penny has certainly done that here. The OOF lines of the building in the background are especially nice.

The host wasn't after flat looking picys, so all the picys in the gallery are on topic. Overcast light was more in Mary Annes mind so as long as there's no direct sunlight everything is honky dory a.

K- I hear you. thanks. Penny Street

Penny - I believe you but the question is what we, as viewers, see. And we see a nice picture with a wonderful light - great job in PP - which is anything but flat.
Basically the same is true for many other pictures in this challenge.

I didn't see much sun on this grey day, but thanks for the comment, K.
What you're seeing as glow is me dodging highlights just to see what I could make of them (and this picture) but believe me the light was flat as a pancake. Penny Street

Penny - nice picture indeed. The flower is really glowing. But at the same time this makes this nice photo out of topic (as I understand it) for me. The light here is anything but flat.
Love the picture!

Good crop indeed. The lines all make sense and the flower dominates in such an off-hand, natural, nonaggressive way we quickly come to empathize with it in its ever so humdrum environment. It deserves better. -tv

The colors of this vivid orangey yellow flower stands out nicely against the dark DOF. :)

Thanks Rod. It was just starting to drizzle and everything looked all grey but then this flower shot up out of nowhere. Penny Street

Gawd this picy has a real manly edge to it. The beautifully lit flower & colours with the slightly shaded tones underneath seemingly lost in the big city. The exposure on the flower looks terrific. Well seen & taken megirl, itsa a ripper a.
