Illustrator and artist. Born 1932. Studied at Carnegie Tech and the Brooklyn'sPratt Institute under Philip Guston. Became a commissioned artist for The New Yorker in 1958; in 1973 he became its art editor, a position he held for twenty years. Upon his retirement in 1998, he had purportedly published more than 1500 drawings in The New Yorker.
Lorenz is an acclaimed musician. He plays coronet with his own group, "The Creole Cookin' Jazz Band."
