Jay N. "Ding" Darling. Noted cartoonist and conservationist. Born Michigan (1876). Began cartooning for the Sioux City Tribune in 1900; moved to the Des Moines Register until his retirement. He was chief of the the US Biological Survey in 1934-35 and later made honorary president of the National Wildlife Federation.
