EDIT: After further review, I believe this is a Barberry Geometer Moth - Coryphista meadii.

How beautiful. Superb shot!! A Geometrid anyway, and Pierre could be right (I've not seen Tulip tree beauty as they don't occur up here), could also be one of the carpets? V
