Wow...Kelly, Lonnit, Iso, Unknown Person, and Yuvraj again, thank you kindly for the high praise. Lonnit, you are correct, the pig does have toes; I even gave him little cloven pig toes (but they don't show up in the images). Thank you for pointing out how near the edge the near pig's toes are, I don't think I'd noticed...might play around with it later. Now, as far as the square thing goes and deducting points...well, hmmph! ;) (I actually did try for a square composition, but I liked this better.)

Melanie, Thank you for the behind the scenes writeup on this one. It simply is WOW !! Superb effort and spot on the theme. I really really like it a lot. And as iso say .. this image can grace an album cover any given day. Marvelous :) I like this better than the original Pink Floyd 'Animal' album cover, IMO it is that good :)

Square or not, I love it! Very Creative.

In terms of production, concept, effort and result this is probably the most awesome picture here and one that I would consider to be worthy of gracing an album cover. Its just fabulous and I wish it was mine. Purely on a critical note, its a shame that for all the good things about it, whilst it works with the border given, the actual composition isn't square, so I'll deduct a few points for that ;)

Oh, how unfair!!! You're a sculptress... you live by a creek... sigh. I'm just disgusted by the creativity and brilliance of this image. Truly is top-notch. Oh, those ice clouds... what can I say??? Alright, I'll be a totally jealous bitch and pick on it - I would have liked a tiny smidge more space under the toes (yes, TOES! If you can make flying pigs, then I can claim they have toes!) of the bottom guy. I do love how you faded them out to look like they are in the fog of the clouds. This is definitely an image I could see appearing in Communication Arts. Kudos!! ~ Lonnit

Very well done Melanie and thank you for the behind the scenes glimpse of how you put this together. I very much love the ice bit for the clouds - very imaginative and well done on coping with the 640 x 640 requirement too! - Kelly

Thank you Trav, Bob, Yuvraj, and Nico, for the wonderful compliments.

Yuvraj, yesterday morning I dug out some old polymer clay I had lying around and sculpted the pig. Then I took it outside and photographed it several times (couldn't take that many and had to be quick, as the wind was threatening to topple him--and I had to keep repositioning him). I perched him on a toothpick and braced the toothpick in a ball of polymer clay, and put the whole thing on the banister of my deck--so the background would just be a relatively uncluttered sky (the easier to select him out of). I selected 3 of the resulting images, selected out the pig in each, and moved them over to a background image I'd taken the day before (of the really cool ice patterns on the creek behind my house). Duplicated each of them a few times and used free-transform on the duplicates.

:-) And I was so hoping one of my warthog would take off and do a fly-past so that I could have the winning entry... No such luck though. And it is better so, they would not have been able to beat this "swarm" (?) [what do you call a collection of flying pigs?] :-) :-) Compliments and regards Nico
