No, the steam is only on and used to froth milk in a stainless steel cup for Latte`s. Best Wishes, Traveller

I like this the best of the two. The wider view and composition won here. I like the tone and grit of the shot and wtg on capturing that steam. An interesting machine this is, is the steam always running like that?

Great idea, Traveller, and the steam looks great. I enjoyed reading Najinsky's thoughtful critique. -Michael

You know, Bob, I Think you got it just about right...the other patrons of this establishment were wondering...What the Hell?!? And the owner was a little surprised by my off the wall request...but who can say no to a very polite request from me?

In truth, I first asked for him to be in the shot...but he declined when told it was going to be posted on the internet. Well, at least I'm honest with people. Then he kind of got into to it...letting me do what I want.

I might also add that there is a no photography rule at this establishment...a pretty hard and fast rule, but the pics were only of the machineries of their joy, so what the hell, why not?

Best Wishes, Traveller

I feel for the coffee proprietor here... imagine some derro' with a camera charging into your shop and vandalising your coffee machine? :-) .... How did you get away with this Trav? I like it! ~ Regards Melbob

I agree with CJ - nice capture of the steam - and obviously an excellent source. Cheers! - Kelly

Thanks for thought, Lydia, we do think alike, that was in my mind when shot and processed.

Naj, I appreciate your thoughtful criticism...I will think and cogitate on it. I have a much darker version...but there are virtues to this also. Hummmmmmmm....

Best Wishes, Traveller

I like the potential in this shot Traveller, but I think it falls between 2 genres at the moment. The Alien effect is strong with the high pressure steam and the grubby grill but I don't think the menace can be increased just through curves, I think it needs an additional subject in the composition, perhaps an object obscuring the steel sink, or a figure in the background (maybe your waiter from the borders challenge!). Without this, it could almost be a product shot, demonstrating the power of the steam, but for that the equipment needs to be a lot cleaner and some additional lighting coming from the right to highlight both the middle of the machine and the rear steam jets.

And yes I concur, it is almost impossible to get real coffee without the steam. Regards -Najinsky

I like this one. Still not overprocessed, looks just right to me, industrial coffee-engine-in-the-pits look. If that is a look :P
The white thing upper left corner is a little distracting.. perhaps tone that down.

Thanks Sam, I'm Trying for an H. Geiger effect, like in the movie Alien...but I don't think I'm there. I need darker, more foreboding...but I keep hitting the curves box...lol
