Well done - yet again! - Melanie! I always find it nice to know who I am speaking to when I write a comment. Thanks also the background information. Regards jnconradie

This is just wonderful, Melanie! I didn't react to the direction of the light at all but to the image as a whole which I love. I really enjoy your work, it is so thoughtful with that fantastical edge that makes me smile. Excellent work! ~Sharon

A Puff or a ISO....Paaaffffft, Pufft! It is a Melanie! I still thing that this has a terrific emotional wallop...that you saw how these elements fit together in you head first...is really the magic. Just wonderful. Best wishes, Traveller

Thank you Kiki, and you guessed correctly :). (And another thank you to Traveler for the compliment of considering it might be a Puff or an ISO, high praise.) --Melanie

Elegant. Not a perfect composite but a very nice composition. The imperfections don't harm the overall impression, IMO. The missing shadow is just fun, it could even have been removed. The difference in lighting gives it a stage-shot look. What really gave it away to me is the red'ish fringing of the hair against a blue background - "unpossible".
And I think this is MLynn?

Thank you all for your comments. As Cat noticed, the OOF hair is due to the long exposure used for the figure. The images were taken on very different days (and the one of the screen was not taken with this particular image in mind--I just liked the play of light and form). I thought of this idea on the day I created it; but the weather was poor, and I didn't have alot of time available--so I had to take it inside with poor light of the wrong direction and type (I was very aware of this at the time--but wanted to try anyways). I don't have a remote, so am lucky to get even a somewhat in focus shot (in the other attempts, the hand tying the shoe showed motion blur). As it was rather dark that day (inside and out), I had to dodge the hair a fair amount to show any detail at all. I considered (and I think-tried) reversing the figure so the light angle was more of a match, but I did not like the overall composition as well in that configuration.

Cool!! Nicely seen, taken. If this a set-up, then its a great vision realised.
The out of focus feel to the hair is due to the 1s exposure. And it does look like composite. But I like what is presented in front of me, independent of how its made!

Lovely image! Where in the world does one find such a frayed cloth/curtain/whatever to use as prop? :-)

My only suggestion for improvement would be the OOF hair, which I find slightly distracting. Having said that, however, I am sure in the "surreal" style this might be counted as a positive element by some! :-)

I think it is terrific! Love the concept and composition. I take Mikey's point, one can see shadows of the threads but no shadow of the model, but it is not so obvious as to detract at all in my opinion. (...is a good point to watch though.)

Surrealish... not sure, being one who dabbles in the extreme of surrealism, this to me is on the other end of the scale... very realish? But.... being an Art 'ignoramous' myself I would have to google lots to find a realistic answer to your question. Perhaps some of the knowledgeable participants could assist.

Great post, ~ Regards Melbob

Nice image, no doubt, but definitely a composite (not that it matters). The lighting is inconsistent, i.e. the dominant light on the fabric is coming from the right of the frame and the dominant light on the girl(?) is coming from the left of the frame. That very thing may add to the abstract look of the image, tho....":^) -mikey

'tis not a Puff, nay say I. I do think it's a fantastic piece, many many applause. Nice emotion and very fluid. The lighting is wonderful. If it is a composite, I don't see any obvious signs of it. I'm far more focused on content made all the more appealling due to photographic technique. Beautifully done. -Michael

This looks outdoors, and that's rare for an outdoor shot to be an Iso, besides him not participating much lately. Additionally, the hair is oof, and with him, nothing is ever OOF. Additionally, it looks like the person is composited in, and Iso does everything real-time. ~ Lonnit

I think also that this is an ISO or a Puff. If someone else, Kudos to you. Best wishes, Traveller

I'll think of an art style for this eventually...How about just, "Good." This could well be the winner. Best Wishes, T

I think I like it a lot for it's structure and very strong emotional component....you should be proud of this puppy. Best Wishes, Traveller
