Revealed:

It's something called a Witch Ball - "A witch ball is a hollow sphere of plain or stained glass hung in cottage windows in 18th century England to ward off evil spirits, witch's spells or ill fortune." (Wikipedia)

Inside the ball are strands of glass that meet the edge of the ball... the photo is of one of those joints. It was a macro, shot with the 50mm f/1.4 lens and 3 extension tubes.

A green boxing glove giving birth to a cycling helmet?? Reflected or seen through flexible laminiation foil on glass (a poor job with lots of air trapped in it..) The centerpiece is intriguing.. it looks like a small very distorted photo of a kid in a hallway..)

I remember those balloons as a kid. They came in a tube with a straw and you put a little goo on the straw and blew it up into this grand smelly colorful temporary odd shaped balloon. I loved that stuff. But nope, that's not what it is. No correct answer yet, on either what it/they may be, or who took it --- signed: the unknown photographer

I instantly thought of Matt when I saw this. And if it isnt him, a Sergio Rojkes. They're both good at filling the frame and those WOW pictures. The colors remind me more of Sergio, but the overall impression of motion and emotion is more like Matt. I could be completely out of it as usual, of course :P

Great photo and nice guesses ...
Hmmm... how about oil polished belly button of elderly person taken under disco lights, by any chance?
The fancy way of doing the SP remainds me of JimH. The brilliant coloration makes me think of Melbob's art.

Looks like those blowing balloons that come as a paste with a little straw, which are so cool at kids parties... but the smell is so strong that normally the parents sneak a couple of paste tubes to sniff them in the after party.. then you can really see a higher spectrum of psychedelic colors....(and take some excellent HDR shots in your brain)... To me what this looks like is two balloons. The inside one is blown up and the end knotted. The outer one has as much air as possible sucked out of it, so that the skin of the balloon, which is evidently of the mylar balloon type, is hugging the inside one as closely as possible, over the opening of the inner balloon. A longwinded explanation, but I don't know how to explain it in fewer words. -- Victor
