There is an imposter posting here again. Just for the record: I LOVE artichokes and I also love this shot. Congrats, Trav, on one that's been catching my attention from the moment it was posted! Jim H.

OK, not until now I see my name in the comments of this... What can I say? I'm busy to say the least, but I actually left the second comment on this photo, albeit anonymously as cslr challenge by mistake - sorry... Some call this lamp "the artichoke", but in Danish (and the designer is Danish: Poul Henningsen) it is called "koglen", which means "the cone" as in cone from a coniferous tree.

Thanks to everyone for the kind words...the image worked out better than expected in being both a distinct thing and yet...almost other-worldly with the intense light making it seem alien and, at least to me, alive. Thanks again. Traveller

Excellent image Trav... I keep coming back to it, I can't help myself, it's so nice looking.

Jim H!!!!!!!!!!! Artichokes are one of life's greatest pleasures! However, I will admit it's tough to find a good wine to accompany artichokes. Oh, btw, Traveller, this is wonderful. -Michael

Traveller, I've got a smile on my face, because I have a sneaking suspicion that you'll be setting our next challenge. Start thinking of a good one! -- Victor

Howdy, CJ...Your amazing powers of being correct continue...but the design of this hanging lamp is Danish...it is a lovely thing, but, the two largest petals seemed to have seams down them and getting them removed and propery blended again was a bear. Thanks for Commenting...Best wishes, Traveller (I like this image so I guess I want it to be known as mine....lol)
Canon DSLR Challenge25-Mar-2007 19:52
OK - Maybe Traveller??? CJ
Canon DSLR Challenge25-Mar-2007 19:36
Alas, not in my home...but I would note that the image is better if it is thought of as an, "Olaf."....lol...Anything thought to be done by Olaf just automatically seems better...(grin)...Be Good.
Canon DSLR Challenge25-Mar-2007 18:07
This is fabulous. I'll be amazed if it's a found object, though. -- Victor
Canon DSLR Challenge25-Mar-2007 18:01
Beautiful image with great tones! Is this in your home and is this Olaf? CJ
jnconradie24-Mar-2007 21:29
Compliments on an amazing photograph. The post-processing suits the image wonderfully and the gradients from light to shadow are just so cool. Regards jnconradie

This looks to me like it should be hanging over a dining room table, ummm, after it's turned right side up.
Guest 24-Mar-2007 20:16
This looks like pieces of venitian blinds...it is really beautiful!

I will add this, however, I was thinking of having a rocket jet sort of effect coming out of the very center...but it is so lovely in and of itself, the design compelled me to not mess with it, in effect to respect its integrity.
Canon DSLR Challenge24-Mar-2007 19:11
And so it is....lol...the image was ok in its correct orientation, but seemed to work better this way. Thanks for the reference though....I didn't know how well known or prominent this designer was.
Canon DSLR Challenge24-Mar-2007 17:01
Poul Henningsen didn't live in vain... Nice shot, but it is upside down...
Guest 24-Mar-2007 13:52
WoW! The bright glow in the heart of the flower is very unique. The B to W gradients are great! Is it really steel? It looks so delicately arranged, just like petals. Great anology! -Cat
