Ladder 49 * Traveller (Just Before the Explosion)

...and there was a tremendous electrical explosion when the water saturated and conected the two high power lines. I've been in war, I done demo with C4 and det cord and all kinds of stuff...but this explosion was...enormous...and blinding. The left side of my face still feels singed and left eye is still a little weirded out also.

There is sooooo much excitement and fun when you go out to shoot...lol. As I think about it, the shower of sparks and fire and blinding light as well as the concussion could not be photographed...it was just too big.

Heavy PP, even neat image to try to bring down the chromatic noise in this 1600asa shot.

I have never seen a photo from you which does not have an associated story to go with it, Mr. T. This is no exception! Well done! -Cat

Traveller... have you ever had just one of those film outings when NOTHING actually happens? ... Well captured! I agree with Michael, dodging would also cover a little of the visible noise in the darker part of the water spout... but no big deal.. at ISO1600 why wouldn't we expect noise?

Interesting clock... has a "bob each way" (English version of dollar each way ..LOL)on the time depending on which face one chooses?

Boy... you are really serious about getting things right Traveller?.. you must spend all of your available time on these? I 'dips me lid to ya'

Dearest Michael: this is the third version I've put up...two landscape, one portrait...I'm still fiddling....lol. Thanks always for the advice though, I will look into it. Real Best Wishes, Traveller

Good grief, Traveller, how do you find yourself in these situations! It's a stunning moment captured. I'd be tempted to do a tad of dodging up the center of the water plume just to carry that center core of light in the water close to the very top...but that's just me and it might not be very honest to the style you've chosen here. -Michael

Thanks for the addition to this story, Jim. I am fine, but I did distinctly feel like a had a sunburn right after the blast....It was UV, hun? Interesting, a sunburn at 2am...lol. This also points out the unknown dangers that firemen face. This was something I was unaware of.
Thanks again, Traveller

Awesome shot. I like the exposure and the reflections in the wet pavement. The figure of the "running man" in the background seems to add some curious interest to the whole thing too.

I can imagine that one of the reasons that you've had some nasty effects from this particular blast would be because of the large amount of UV radiation that it probably unleashed. You may have a bit of a sunburn and your eye could have easily been affected by the UV too.

I hope you and everyone else are OK.

You DO find the excitement!!!

Hey Trav, as they used to say on "Hill Street Blues": "Be careful out there!"
