I went back a few days ago to see whether I should take more pictures of these dead birds, but during the daytime. All the birds had been removed. All that remained was a dead bat. I don't know if you can make it out, but the bat is visible in this picture, at lower, right.

The building is currently vacant. The windows have been boarded up almost all the way to the top, a few inches away from the window pane. There must be a place somewhere that birds can enter the building. They must then fly toward the light, where they hit the glass and fall down to the window sill where they meet their death. There are at least 4 that were in the window sill when I was there in three separate windows. -- Victor

As far as composition and lighting go, I prefer this one of the two pictures. It makes me a little sad to see these dead birds though - what happened? CJ

Oh, you noticed that (the line at the top). That is a result of an error in my crop. I extended the frame beyond the edge of the picture, thus including a sliver of the background color. The main goal was to straighten the picture. You can see how much I straightened.

I think I prefer this one, too, even though, at shooting time, I thought the other one would come out better. I have a third one with yet a different bird that complements these two and would form a good tryptich.

Two hightly emotive entries... and I probably prefer this one (a lit bit) above the other. (A very slightly different cropping could perhaps get rid of lighter slither in the top right corner?) You know, in some ways it reminded me of the shot I posted in the previous Challenge (Advertisement) of the poor man lying next to the wall... the Red Cross one... if you recall. Yours is of course better composed and far more intense. Compliments. Regards ~jnconradie
