Oh, Vikas... almost forgot; no, that's not me. That's a short brunette. Besides, what are the odds that I'm going to be that far away from my gear in a public place! LOL! ;) ~ Lonnit

Thanks, guys. Hurricanes & twister are pretty rare here. We also don't get mud slides, raging wildfires, earthquakes, nor tornadoes. It's a beautiful island that, everywhere I travel, reminds me of some part of it. :) As for the centered composition - yes, you certainly know my anality for rules of thirds. Sometimes, however, as we all know, rules area meant to be broken. Because of the nature of the subject (bad pun!) this was one of those times to break the rule and go for centering. To disincenter the subject, would have meant including irrelevant surroundings that did not add to the image. Centering was the calling for the image - I considered nothing else. This was right - this is what I shot. :) Thank you for being so attentive as to realize my obsession with the rule of thirds. Now, not that you think I had a blatent disregard for the rule of thirds here; if you look carefully at the image, you will see that the low leaves on the left side run directly along the left line of thirds, the long branch on the left runs diagonally up at an angle, towards the upper left corner, passing thru the upper left intersection of thirds; the cascade of leaves on the middle right side of the tree runs at an angle down thru the upper right intersection of thirds and the small smattering of lower right leaves that sit halfway between the trunk and the lowest far right leaves is also coming down the right line of thirds; the back of her chair runs at an angle that intersects the lower right corner of the frame , running up thru the chair, and continuing on to cross directly thru the lower left intersection of thirds; the background trees, of course, run along the lower line of thirds, there is a horizontal dark section in the middle of the tree that runs directly along the upper line of thirds which centers the leafy part of the tree directly on that same upper line of thirds; there's also a branch on the right side of the tree that points directly to the upper right intersection of thirds... so, don't be worried that I've run willy-nilly from that rule now! Just b/c it's centered, doesn't mean it's not following the rule of thirds. Now do you see just how obsessed I am with it? LOL! ;) ~ Lonnit

Nice one, Lonnit. I was also hoping to find the right picture to do a "tourism" type of advertisement, but did not succeed. Yours is excellent, however.

[The last time I was on Long Island was when a hurricane hit (early '90s, if I recall correctly) and it certainly did not look as peaceful and attractive then.]

I was surprised by your "tree right in the middle" composition. Not that it looks unattractive, by the way, simply since I always associate your compositions with strong "rules of thirds" type layouts. Any specific reason for this design?

:-) Fun shot Lonnit; guess I have to visit Long Island the next time I am in the US; is that you under the tree?

Cheers, Vikas.
