This is the first time I have used sepia/mono straight out of the camera.
Just used eraser and clone tools to get rid of the background.

I don't know why, but I always like seeing animals relaxing. This guy looks pretty close to just dropping off for a good snooze. I do like the black and white for this. And I suspect that erasing the background was a very good move. What is left fits the frame nicely and I can focus on the real subject of the shot. Jim H.

Schmaltzy is good for a camel. Given typical camel personality, they need all the schmaltzy charm one can give them. Be that as it may, I'm eternally attracted to them and love the details in this shot. -Michael

I like this overall -- especially the color, tone & detail of the camel. I think you did an excellent job with the vignetting around the lower left corner of the picture.

Having said that, there are some details that are quite distracting. Above the camels neck, I see several specks. These could be easily cloned out. Also, the vignetting on the right side needs some work. It doesn't fade out to the same white-ish color that the rest of the picture does. It looks blurred/smudged. Since this is right in front of the camel's face, my eyes just keep being drawn to it. Takes me away from looking at the camel.

Yep, this was taken in the Market today and lots of stuff in the way... so schmaltzy it is!

:-) Functional? Perhaps. Comfortable? I have my doubts! :-)

It made me think back to another "Down Under" entry from Challenge 67, namely Michael Kilpatrick's "schmaltzy vignetted' (his words) entry entitled, "First Cat".

I presume the vignetting was done to get rid of some unwanted background elements, or am I mistaken? ~jnconradie
