Thanks, Olaf, I appreciate your offering your opinion (a Spanish proverb says «it’s never late for a good thing»). So the tally stands now nearly even between the original and this «panorama-style» image... ;-)) — db.

I am bit late for the 'vote', but I liked the original version the best too...
Canon DSLR Challenge11-May-2006 16:20
Yes, Lonnit, *I* would have stayed with my original entry. But I was not sure enough about it; that’s why I asked for other opinions. I got them—some—and I acted accordingly. That’s all! I wouldn’t give in to pressure (don’t fear for me...); but I can take critique. — db.

Yeesh, Dude... why go thru all that trouble when all you had to do was listen to me in the first place? ;) LOL! But seriously, you shouldn't feel pressured to change your entry based on what we say. You should go with your heart - even if it means we're right and you're wrong and you'll lose. ;) LMAO! You DO know I'm joking, right? Just always be true to the artist in you. OTOH, it's always a good thing to be open minded in taking the criticisms b/c you might have been in error or oversight. Now, that's a general comment; the 'you' didn't mean YOU per se. I am glad that you're an open-enough minded kind of guy to change the image. I think if your heart was truly intent upon the other image, nothing we would have said would have made you change it. I think you agree that our points have merit. Geez, so freaking long-winded a way of me saying I like you - you're ok in my book, and I'm glad we no longer have any tension between us. {{{{{{hugs}}}}} ~ Lonnit

A democratic decision: four «votes» for this image «Pano 1:3», eventually posted here: Lonnit, Victor, Pops and jnconradie, the representative of the *cat and frame*-phalanx; special thanks to him for entering the lion’s den ;-)). One single vote for the alternative «Pano 1:2»; sorry, Traveller. And we, Michael, were the only ones to favour my original entry for its «sense of distance and the broad expansive feeling», as you say. Many, many thanks for all of you taking part in my mini-poll; and, BTW, who’ll take the credit if this pictures should get a vote (or two)?? — db.

Seeing that your answer to my question has been absolutely phantastic—many, many thanks to all respondents!—I posted one more «sample» in Pending. I did it just for fun; I do not think that picture is sharp enough to be entered in Exhibition. — db.

No contest, #3 - see the linked images for additional comments. ~ Lonnit

Personally, I like the 3:1 the best. Pops

Daniel, thanks for taking the time to experiment with the different crops...very interesting to see the possibilities. My preference is for the original. I like the sense of distance and the broad expansive feeling. My original comment was really just a comparison of composition between your 3 pieces. While I don't think the composition of this image is as dynamic as the other two, like you, I still like it very much. -Michael

I like the "pano1:3" best, but would probably not be able to give a detailed technical explanation as to my preference... two strong focal points...fewer distractions... excellent overall impression... I hope this helps? ~jnconradie (being one of the "cat and frame lovers") :-)

Would you, Michael (or any other «cslr_challenger», for that matter), prefer any of the two versions of this very same image I posted in Pending? Which one?? Why??? Do you suggest I substitute? Thanks for your help! — db.

What can I say, Michael? I absolutely do agree with you. It’s a problem of original framing. I tried different crops when postprocessing, but did not like any of them maintaining the proportions (they got the monuments *too* much off-center horizontally), nor trying with a 2:1 pano-style picture (which still would leave them centered vertically). But even with the flaw you mention, I for myself still like the image (if, in all modesty, I may say so myself...). Thanks for commenting! — db.

Very nice exposure, but I don't think the monuments on the center line works as well as your other two compositions. -Michael
