For the blur (OOF) parts, my thinking is that you've got an image that is centered, trying to demonstrate pattern. For this type of image, I kind of feel like the whole piece should be in focus. The gray I am talking about are the parts that are your highlights-- they aren't light green, yellow, or white. They're middle gray. I see them all down the left side and on what should be the highlighted parts of the right side. Now you've got me curious-- did you process this from a RAW shot? I had this kind of thing happen with some of my highlights on one shot where it was fairly overblown. I was able to tone down the highlights, but I'd gone overboard with the processing and they turned gray like this. I like your idea here, I just think you lost a lot of detail. --Nancy/odigi

I've read your comment about 50 times and I still don't know what you are talking about. A few of the leaves are OOF due to the shallow DOF. But the center is in focus. I am stumped about the grey highlights. What do you mean by that?
I like the idea you've got going on here, Grant. [*] I think you've lost a lot of detail, though -- some from the blur on the right and some from the highlighted ares (are your highlights gray?). --Nancy/odigi
