This is definitely one of my favorite entries. I love the mood that's captured and feel that it capures the spirit of the contest perfectly.

This brings tears to my eyes. I feel so badly for him. I just want to say, "Pssssssst! Hey buddy! Look up for a moment, look - the arrow! Follow the arrow!". He seems so desperate but if only he would look outside himself for just a moment; help is there, just beyond the arrow. His whole life would change if he would just take that first step! Oh, if only I could walk over to him, gently grab him behind the shoulder and just point out the way of the arrow! Please do tell us this was a posed shot; my heart is breaking for him! Absolutely stunning photograph! ~ Lonnit

This is just plain perfect. You did an excellent job with this. I love the grain and everything about it. Well done!

I find this just excellent. Utterly poignant. I like the potential symbolism of the arrow (whether intended or not ;-).

Care to tell us how you constructed the image?

The image really says it all. This person really does look lost. The composition, graininess, monochrome - all combine to emphasize the aloneness. Lisafx

Love the idea and space used here. I've been on *car park trips* myself - and they make a good setting for certain subjects. This *desperation* shot works well and mono makes the mood. Angular shapes and shadows nice.

Heavy mood. Excellent use of B&W and grain, good rule-of-thirds composition. On the constructive side (*), my eyes wanted a bit more contrast in the frame. A coarse Unsharp Mask (say, Amount 10-20, Radius 100, Threshold 0) would give greater form to the elements in your image. But still (as Olaf notes) a striking image. Very well done. --Joe Reilly

Striking photograph! Being alone can be positive, but in this interpretation it sure isn't! I like the grain, the light and shadows – and the fact that the man is NOT sitting in the light, although I would like to see a little more detail on him. Nice composition! – Olaf
