mother nature -- this photo was given to me to post by a biologist who has been doing research into the impact of roads on turtle populations. I don't know the story of what happened after, but doubtless, he would have provided whatever appropriate assistance was required to the turtle. We have a turtle rescue center in this region, so it is was appropriate for the turtle to go there, that's what would have happened. Unfortunately, many turtles can't be saved and must be euthanized instead. And yes, everyone should slow down in areas frequented by wildlife (including turtles). If you know of an area where turtles regularly cross a road to get to their nesting areas, talk to your municipality about putting up turtle crossing signs. Many municipalities now do so -- at least in eastern Ontario where I live. Thanks for leaving a comment.
