It is not dated, but looks like last 1/4 of C19th to be belt driven by a steam engine; curiously made in Aberdeen (must look up when Ransomes of Ipswich became huge manufacturer of agricultural equipment). cf http://www.pbase.com/crisscross/image/156780807
wheat etc were cut into sheaves and after some outdoor drying, stacked either into stacks or one side of opposing double doors in a barn. Later in the season the grain was extracted using a flail and the chaff blown away by a crosswind. These machines then replaced the grain extraction process and similar were still in use in the 1950's when my parents inadvisedly took up farming
