I think these watering gantries several 100 metres long must be towed across whole fields at a time. The ground is very sandy and probably completely knackered from chemical applications….the Sutton Hoo blurb suggests it was already exhausted in the early middle ages, but using larger and larger scale machinery it is somehow kept going until permission can be gained for a few hundred/thousand more houses
