One of the 21 new villages of smallholdings created by the Land Settlement association in 1934 http://www.peterclarke.com/Land4.htm and although disbanded in 1982, retains an incredibly high density of working smallholdings providing a delicious variety of fruit and vegetables, eggs, pork (I take their ad on trust) etc at the roadside. Even more importantly a scarecrow with camera in hand can feel at home unembarrassed by city clothing and accessories.
