the south end of Aldeburgh used to be the port of Slaughden, a town in its own right at the mouth of the Alde. However, the river Alde silted up and its mouth was occluded by a gravel bar while at the same time erosion swallowed most of the town so only this was left by 1900. Seems very popular with fishermen, though I have yet to see a line with anything on it. Further back still (and dark in this shot) is Thorpeness
