The Cure have defined my life through their music, essence and style. It seems there is a Cure song or Cure lyrics for all my emotions and feelings. From, ". . . laughing at the the Christmas lights" to . . 'can't you see I try to swim in the same deep water as you," my thoughts seem to mirror Robert Smith's lyrics in so many songs.
The music of the Cure strikes a chord with my heart. The brilliancy of Robert & Simon on their guitars (and Porl when he was with the band); the enthusiasm and talent of Perry; the melodic, entrancing keyboards of Roger; and the precision of Jason's drumming all bring together the perfect sounds of the Cure. All Cure songs are strong and powerful and move me tremendously. The lighthearted, whimsical melodies and words of "The Caterpillar" are just as pleasurable for me to listen to as the discerning words of "Faith".
Robert Smith's voice is so perfectly matched to each song the Cure performs. Since Robert Smith wrote the songs, I believe they are sung with more raw feeling and emotion. The wide range of Robert's voice is another facet which helps to set the Cure apart from the masses. When I listen to a Cure song, I know it will be sung and performed to its fullest extent, bringing me intense pleasure for each particular song.
While in college, I first heard a Cure song. Then I knew that this was a unique band. When I saw photos of the band, I thought how perfect they looked for the sound I had heard. Robert's lipstick was so cleverly smeared and his hair was pure genius! Simon, Porl, Roger and Boris all had smashing coolness to them. This was the group for me. I began to read about The Cure and buy their earlier music. Naturally, my feelings grew even deeper. I have read anything I can get my hands on which pertains to The Cure. My album collection is quite abundant, yet not complete.
Knowing that The Cure were from England made the band even more alluring. To me, the country is so lovely and romantic. It sort of "fairytailized" in a way. I loved that Robert was still with Mary, whom he met when they were about 15. This helped to validate many of the songs for me. I felt his lyrics were true and honest because he was still with the girl he had written many of the songs about.
The first concert I was able to attend was in New Orleans. This was my first live Cure experience, and I have been hooked every since. Other places I have experienced the Cure live are Dallas, TX; San Diego, CA; Irvine, CA; Los Angeles, CA; Tampa, FL; and Atlanta, GA. When I attend a Cure concert I " . . . feel like I am home again." The people at Cure shows are always so cool. We all know we love the Cure and it immediately gives us a common bond, unlike with other shows. The Cure are by far the best live band ever. I always come home from their shows feeling like I've been infused with a shot of alternative energy and happiness.
So . . . when I finally was blessed the opportunity to meet the band recently, again a host of Cure lyrics began swirling around in my head. I felt, "high as a kite," and Robert was "just like heaven and just like a dream." When fantasizing before about meeting the band, there were things I had wanted to ask them and to say. But, in the words of Robert Smith . . .
Never quite said
What I wanted to say to you
Never quite managed the words
To explain to you
Never quite knew how to make them believable
And now the time has gone
Another time undone
The Cure are my true icon.
Thank you!

Dear guest, that was you! You are so lucky! I think I am starting to like the photo better since you are a really pretty person. I am also a female Robert fan and I really want to meet him, but I live in the one part of Canada that they do not come to which is Vancouver and the only way I can meet him is by letter and getting the managment address is tricky, since it is not on their records that I own! I hope meeting Robert was a lucky experience for you!!! From Alana.

Dear Alana,
That's okay if you don't "care" for this photo. Personally, I happen to LOVE it because I am the lucky one to be standing beside Robert in this photo. It was not taken by a professional photographer with a special zoom and/or flash. I'll cherish the memories in this photo forever!!

this photo is okay, but I don't care for it for some reason. but for some reason I would say maybe the brightness of the picture or the way it was taken.
