Cook's Fish Barn near Rising Star, Texas

Man this place is out in the middle of nowhere. It's a fun place to dirve to. The food was really good--the catfish was very good. Tartar sauce not so good, but you can always use ketchup or cocktail sauce. Buffet comes with slaw, hush pupplies, chicken fingers and french fries. They also have a steak buffet (see picture) that looks pretty good. The owners/managers are VERY friendly. When I left (last ones to leave) they let us fill up a styrofoam container of fish, chicken, etc to take with us. Heck, even these cute high school girls working there were nice to me--haha. So I recommend it--especially if your really hungry. However, this place is not about atmosphere. The leaks in the roof have been patched with duct tape, and you get the impression that if you went outside and pushed hard enough you could knock the whole building over. The next time I go, I'm going to try the all you can eat sirloin steak instead of the fish. They had some stew there on the buffett line that was really good.

To get there take I-20 west out of Fort Worth about 1.5 hours. When you get to Cisco, go south on 183 for 20 miles until you get to Rising Star. Take 36 east out of rising star 11 miles and restaurant is on the left.
