Namibia, 31 March - 4 May 2022

Fatbirder's Top 1000 Birding Websites

We visited South- and Central-Namibia from March 31 to May 4, 2022, our first long distance destination again
after the beginning of the Covid-pandemic two years ago. We rented a car with two rooftop tents through Osino Car Hire
in Windhoek and just travelled around, camping along the way. Only our lodging at Erindi Private Game Reserve
was booked beforehand as the campsite was still closed due to Covid.

The first week we lingered a few days near Windhoek and travelled south all the way to the South African border and the Ais-Ais
National Park, visiting places like Daan Viljoen, Arnhem Caves, Hardap Dam, Quiver Tree Forest and Fish River Canyon.
The second week we travelled along the Orange River towards Rosh Pinah and back north again to Sesriem, with a
multiple day stopover in Lüderitz along the way. In the third week we visited the famous dunes of Sesriem and the Sossusvlei,
Namib Naukluft National Park and the coast of Walvis Bay and Swakopmund. In our fourth week we explored the northcentral
mountaineous areas of Spitzkoppe, Brandberg and Erongo. Our final days we focussed on the Big 5 (Buffalo's excluded)
in Erindi Private Game Reserve.

We had the most wonderfull time enjoying the diverse sceneries of the country, which were more green then usual
because of some good rains prior to our arrival. Our trip was highly succesfull seeing almost all the (near-)endemics
(including the 1 true endemic: Dune Lark) bird and all the big mammal species that were possible on our route
(including Black Rhino, Desert Elephant, Lion, Leopard, Cheetah, Wild Dog and much much more), and
a great diversity of other small (and bigger...) critters crawling around.
