Europe, North-Africa to Central-Asia.
The following 5 subspecies are being recognized:
Columba palumbus palumbus - Europe and Northwest-Africa to West-Siberia, East Turkey and Iraq. Winters to North-Africa;
Columba palumbus maderensis - Formerly mountains of Madeira. Probably extinct;
Columba palumbus azorica - East and Central Azores;
Columba palumbus iranica - South Transcaspia to Iran;
Columba palumbus casiotis - Kazakstan to North Afghanistan, North Pakistan, Northwest-India and Nepal.
