07 SEP 07 THERE WAS A PLANE CRASH

There's an Air Show This weekend
The Blue Angels are in town and practicing daily
They are AMAZING and fun to watch

But one of the other civilian WWII formation-flying groups had a disaster during practice today
It was awful . . and older planes do not have ejection seats
I never considered that a plane from such a low flight maneuver could make a hole that deep
but no one else was injured . . . he managed to get the plane away from people

There were spectators all along the fenced perimeter of the airfield
The blur in the background is not a plane, even tho it has the shape
I don't know what that is . . . . but the lost aircraft was on the opposite end of the runways

It happened early in the day, around noon . . . the clinic was immensely busy

By mid afternoon, the area had been properly secured and cleaned

So the Blues practiced at three

That blur in the background is a navigational aid, possibly a VOR (VHF Omni-directional Range) or a VORTAC (same thing with distance measuring equipment attached). Eventually, these cumbersome land-based systems will be entirely replaced by space age systems such as GPS.
