10 MAR 06 TOM CRUISE'S F14 TOMCATS ARE GONE

These are the planes of Top Gun fame

This was the final flyby for the remaining two Tomcat squadrons (twenty two planes all in formation . . .AMAZING!)
They returned today from a six month deployment overseas
It was quite the spectacular homecoming . . . . . and sad too

I read about this in the paper. My cousin was a test pilot for the Navy and flew these. Nice capture. I was hoping someone would capture it.

Do you want me to start reciting the dialog, word for word, while you guys sing the background music?? Course I get to play Charlie, right?? Tomcats are my favorites-I was almost distraught when they announced the phaseout.

I'd forgotten the 'Cats were retiring. The end of an era, definitely. They were designed to defend a carrier battle group from waves of Soviet bombers... the Cold War is over for sure now.
