02 AUG 04 BOMB THREAT

Screwing up the middle of our day was a "suspicious package" left near the front door

This one was "more suspicious" than ususal . .
which . . . .I don't know about you, but it leads me to ask . . .
just how suspicious are the "usual" packages abandoned by the front door?

We were sequestered for about three hours . . no one could enter or leave the clinic
Or the clinic parking lot . . .

'Course the bomber had already come & gone by now, but HEY!
We hadda be sure . . . .

Held hostage not only within the bldg, but cordoned off into the nether regions of the clinic
away from glass doors, windows, etc . . . .hot, stuffy, and annoying

But . . . it's gotta be done . . these days ya never know who's trying to fart around with your safety
*SIGH*

Muslims, no doubt

The time it is something serious, you'll be glad they took the precautions.

What WAS inside that suspicious packet, Pete? Old clothes I'll bet.

I have to think that Stewart has a good point, and I imagine our "Terror Levels" will climb as November approaches...so people are afraid to go vote....Freakin' scary man! Be afraid....be VERY afraid! That's what they want! Sorry you had a bad day, all sequestered and glad it turned out to be nothing.
Lara S04-Aug-2004 03:43
hmm I see this has reached your coast line as well.
Karen Leaf04-Aug-2004 00:47
A sign of the times.... Glad it was just a scare.
Wesley Aston04-Aug-2004 00:37
Had this done back in school a time or 2. As long as nothing bad happend, good thing
Anne Young03-Aug-2004 23:46
Glad you're okay!

I know that we live in uncertain times, but I think there is a lot of over-reacting going on... Just look at the latest 'threat'... apparently New York, New Jersey and DC are cordoned of on the basis of three-year old intelligence! Seems to have more to do with the impending election than with public safety (at least that's how it looks from the UK).

I worked in a government building at one time and we were evacuated because of a 'suspicious package' left in the waiting area in the foyer. Turned out to be my friends thermal lunch bag. He had been sitting there talking with some one and then absent mindedly got up and left the bag. The security folks, rightly so, called in the bomb squad, and they blew it up good! We all returned to work, safe from the threat of ... lunch garbage.

Yikes! Seems stressful

Did the box have AMAZON.COM printed on the side?

The army guys look very efficient so that's reassuring. I hope. :)

Where do you work anyway? The Pentagon?

A United Airlines flight bound for LA from Sydney turned back 90 minutes after take-off today because a flight attendant found an empty, unused air sickness bag in a lavatory with 'BOB' written on it.

You got a neat pic out of it.

What a rotten way to start of your week, hope tomorrow things go smoother.

A good example of how a day can bomb out even when it doesn't. No fun. Glad you are okay... albeit bored!
brother_mark03-Aug-2004 03:04
So did the mail man leave it at the wrong door? Frustrating way to spend the day.
jude03-Aug-2004 02:55
Ohhhhhhhhhhhhhh.. a BOMB threat. Sorry.. i just saw cute guys in uniform ...
Sorry you had a sucky time there... I'm still stunned that the didn't evacuate you.
snootydog03-Aug-2004 02:26
oh yes, the suspicious package trick. It is a sign of the times but oh what a waste of precious life. Your commentary however, just cracked me up. Hope tomorrow goes better.
Dennis Croteau03-Aug-2004 02:14
Only on a Monday!

Somebody must of gotten their bill.

I can remember when suspicious packages could be expected to be pleasant surprises. I do hope this one was that.
Ralph Vanover03-Aug-2004 01:53
Hey, just move out here to the sticks of Virginia with me (well, not literally--I'm a married man!) and you won't have to put up with things like this. The most excitement we've had here in a long time was when the police had to chase a bear through town. And I missed the shot.
DeMorcan03-Aug-2004 01:43
When it was all done, what turned out to be in the package? And if I had known it was that easy to get out of a dental appointment....... nevermind. :)
Carmen03-Aug-2004 01:41
Yipes! Didn't they evacuate you? Long live liberty and the...um, I forget what I was going to say...
