Using the 'Crooked and Slow' to the advantage the 3 car local climbs the 1.88% grade to Altus Hill. The background hills are described as the Horse Creek Hogback. There are indications of an old wye for turning helper engines in older times at the north end of the siding with a tail track extending towards the hogback.
