XXIV : Robinson

view map

This helicoper, made up of a wrecked machine, greets visitors to Blackbushe Airfield near Camberley in Surrey.

Once a wartime base, in the 1950's it became a civilian airport specialising in charter flights, a role later taken on by Gatwick. The US Navy also had a small presence here.

Passenger flights eventually ceased and after a while it became a private flying field - a role it holds today.

Now that's the smallest helipad I've ever seen. For expert pilots only. ;-)
