Awesome. Very fitting. I am usually not a fan of this kind of image (all too often I find them a bit gratuitous) but like any story, it would appear it is in the telling. This carries it off very well indeed. Particularly like how his face is obscured, the head is bowed. Adds to the despair as well as the anonymity which I think is necessary. The inclusion of the door of the clinic on the right adds another great dimension, even if unrelated to this man's plight. I don't have an issue at all with the colours or brightness. I actually think it's good to have a few shots in Melancholy like this. I would add one critique however, and while I really like the way the guy stands out, like the "left out", I find the subject a little too sharpened for my taste compared to the front kerb. Anyway, brilliant image - absolutely should be part of the project. Voted

Your comments are well received Jeff. I actually have reprocessed this image at least five different times, never 100% happy with the results. The thing that is different with this image versus most of the others is that it is taken in full sun. Rarely do I venture out for this project if I don't have overcast skies. Desaturating helped a little when I tried it but didn't really eliminate the hard light.

Love the composition, and cetainly fits into your project. However, I'm not sure about the choice in processing. Seems a bit too bright - almost conflicting with the "Despair" title. I would have gone with something a bit more dreary or somber - maybe Monday Morning filter, or just desaturate? Anyway, what do I know?

Brilliant image, Chuck. Human, touching, bleak and hopeless. Perfect.

I think, this is a very melancholic if not sad picture, all the fears of a person waiting for either a personal result or the curing of a beloved one... a great one imho!
Cheers, Armin
