Mayberry

I love small town life.I moved here to my wifes hometown(pop. 10,000) from a city of 1 million.
I tell my patients to call me Clark, I'm not into the "doctor thing"
However it is somewhat endearing when I go places to hear "Hey Doc" like in the barber shop,
Doctor Clark at church,by the 70-85 yo's who refuse to call me Clark out of respect.I get "yes sir" from 5 year old kids to 80 year old men.
I still get vegetables, home made jelly, thank you cards, no traffic tickets(most the cops are my patients/friends)
(We have so lost the respect aspect of life, and putting others first!!)

My boys are at the age where they interact with the men more now.East Texas is a very friendly place where
men and women are still seperated, for the most part,by values that are being left behind.
Men in barber shops, women in beauty shops.

Women in the kitchen, men in the livingroom watching tv while the women do the dishes!!!
NOW HOLD ON!!!
My first Thanksgiving here I was shuffled out of the kitchen by my wife.
I was SHOCKED that this behavior was still going on in the modern world!
What I learned was that the women LIKED this, it gave them chance to communicate with other women.
(nobody communicates with a woman like another woman)

To walk into a house around Thanksgiving and watch all the girls in the kitchen seperated from the men in the living room is strange to see if you aren't from here.
Closer inspection shows them really enjoying "visiting" as they call it. Then looking over to the men who are sitting in a recliner watching the game, communicating non-verbally.

I like it here, and I like what my boys are learning from their elders, which includes
opening doors, respecting elders, work ethics, faith, and on and on it goes.
Chivalry hasn't died,it is strong here in East Texas. Don't let the camoflage , the "good ole boy mentality",
Pick up trucks, gun racks, obsessive hunters fool you-(by the way if it came to a war in the US for some reason,East Texas is where I want to be.)We know how to take care of ourselves, most our women can shoot better than city boys, And they look a whole lot better doing it.

WOW!! that was a tangent ;*]
Anyway seeing this picture brought this all to mind. The guys in the barber shop were chiding the boys poking fun at them.
But also helping me teach them to be MEN!!

Cool shot, Clark. I only wished I had clippers to cut my kids hair, but anyway it's so cheap to go to the barber - usually Indians! And well they like it because after that they get some goldfish as a `reward' for being good.:D
Thanks a lot for your support. Sorry for not being able to comment often, until I finish my studies. So I am like the seasons, hot and cold. :D Take care!

I would love to be in your position Clark. Living in a small town like you, having this way of life. Wonderful thoughts and a wonderful photo. My compliments!

Yup, that did it. I'm moving there someday.
Awesome shot, great story. Keep 'em coming. Some of us long for the small town life.
