From the Copper River we headed north to the Denali Highway.
The Denali Highway is the old main route to McKinley National Park (from 1957 to 1971, which is "old" in Alaska). It's gravel, almost entirely uninhabited, and probably used by hunters more than tourists. Very wild and beautiful.
It's a fairly high-elevation road, reaching 4000 feet and over 3000 feet for most of its length, and mostly above treeline. Closed to cars in winter, naturally.
