Essex River Race 2010

Photos are in chronological order. I watched the race from three spots: The Narrows between Conomo Point and Cross Island; Water Street near Essex Center; and the Essex Rte 133 causeway at and after the finish line. The Narrows is just before the halfway mark of the race. There was a strong crosswind upriver and a standing wave in The Narrows where the wind was blowing contrary to a powerful incoming tide (as you can see form the photos). Water Street is far upriver, about 10 minutes from the finish line. At that point the river is narrow, twisty, and sheltered from the wind between marsh banks.

THANKS again, David for all the awesome shots you take from your "back yard" playground in ESSEX!!!

THIS WAS THE FIRST PLACE I LOOKED for a "REAL LIVE" update on the 2010 ESSEX RIVER RACE, since I couldn't make it down from Portsmouth this year and spoke with the first two racers pictured (via phone calls after the race)that conditions were perfect for the more stable boats. Mark Allen looks very happy in his ECHO ocean shell, and since he went on to be the first place finisher in that catagory, it says that comfort is sometimes KING. NICE rowing Mark :-)
