My GGGgrandfather was John McQueen. He was born on the Isle of Skye, likely in Balmacqueen. The MacQueens on the Isle of Skye were of Norse descent. The MacQueens were a small clan which eventually joined Clan Chattan. John's ancestors fought for Bonnie Prince Charlie and the independence of Scotland. John himself served in the 74th. Infantry of Foot in the Peninsular War, fighting against the Grand Army of Napoleon. Apparently, he was wounded twice in action, survived and was awarded the Campaign Medal with 8 bars (battle honors). He served his enlistment time, was discharged, married, lost his wife and new-born daughter, and took his infant daughter, Mary, to Upper Canada. Mary "Mae" was my GGgrandmother.
