DTW Christmas Tree and Santa's Mailbox

Detroit Metropolitan Airport

I like the little desks.

Probably the last Delta 747 to visit Detroit Metropolitan Airport out-of-frame to the left.

Nowhere near that total, actually. I have had many more lean years than 50,000 mile+. Flying home from Peru on New Year's Day will boost my chances of earning elite status in 2018, something I haven't achieved in over a decade. No bucket list for me, just new experiences.

Dave,
You sound like you have as many miles as I do. I have almost 3M actual on Delta (& Northwest) and probably another 1M on others. Most of these were riding 747s back and forth to Asia and Europe for about 30 years.
So as I am retired, climbing on another plane to anywhere is not my idea of filling a bucket list.

We held just off the runway for the fire department to have a look-see. I've experienced go-arounds, aborted take-offs, lightning strikes and a long, lurid skid. What was that about friendly skies?

Good eats at DTW. We rarely partake, however. Most passengers are connecting through, while we're originating or at our final destination.

Please secure your tray tables and remain seated.

Dave that would be spooky, I don’t ever remember something similar happening on any flight I was on. I’m curious, did they stop the jet short of the jetway so the fire dept could inspect it? I wouldn’t think they'd want to bring a possible active fire up to the terminal. Paul

We had dinner at a restaurant near gate 70 and about across from Chick-fil-A

We had plenty of time so it was nice not to be rushed.

The only kind thing I have to say about LAX is that we have flown to nice destinations from it.

Atlanta was less of a problem than usual. Headed south we arrived at gate E1 and departed from gate E4. Returning, our flight had immigration and customs to itself. The excitement came on approach to Detroit when one of the plane's two engine had to be shut down and we had a visit from the fire department during our taxi to the gate.

I think Chick-fil-A is somewhere near gate A70.

Lax, and those security lines are horrendous. Every Time we've flows in to LA lately we are with children so we get to use the family line but it's slow too. Paul

We were down at the other end, near gate 70. Fortunately our arrival gate and departure gate were close to one another.
We flew through there on the 26th - everything was busy.

Returning to MSP on the 29th, we had to go through Atlanta.
Then flying to Tucson on the 30th, we had to go through LAX - one of my least favorite airports. It is outdated, cramped, and it was crowded.

Thanks. The tree, mailbox, and desks, were near gate A40 (where the "Queen of the Skies" was parked), the fountain, and the entrance to the tunnel to the McNamara Terminal's B and C concourses. DTW was very quiet early yesterday afternoon. We were fortunate to depart and return during lulls. Lima and Atlanta, by contrast were busy, busy, busy.

Good catch.
I was through DTW last week, and it was much more crowded. And I didn't see this tree.
