We had a "Kids in the Canyon" event today in Madera Canyon. Smokey the Bear made an appearance which the kids loved (most of them, anyway)

We have also been in a prolonged drought and fortunately with a couple inches of rain recently the fire danger is minimized some. I'm sure you all heard on the news about the Overland Park massive apartment and nearby home that caught on fire in March. If we weren't so dry some of the nearby homes might have been spared. Paul

Smokey will show up to events like this that are held on the weekends. While he doesn't teach, he lets the other volunteers and forest service folks teach.
And we need it theses days - the red flag warnings are up. It has been hot and dry, and the winds have picked up.
