#5. Light at the end of the tunnel

Home Sweet Home

We are getting closer! I let the tile guy go after the wall job because he is horrible and made too many mistakes. (Seriously) I installed the tile floor myself today.

Just for the record that's not the tile guy, that's me applying a grout sealer!

The tiler screwed up so much it isn't funny. The tiles don't line up well at all in many places, he choose the wrong grout spacing (1/4") for using unsanded grout, didn't use enough tile spacers to keep the tile spacing consistent so we have some sagging is some areas.

The grout I picked up a Home Depot had a mixing problem but yet he continued to use it rather than stopping the job and telling me about it so I could go and get a new box of grout, it was chunky and wasn't applying smooth at all so that led to grout cracking within hours. As you noted Traveller he had to come back again and re applied another layer of grout over the existing layer (another mistake). I'm sure in time I'll have to remove the grout and re grout it completely. Did I mention he also placed the tiles directly on the shower base lip instead of putting a 1/8" space for caulking?? He says he has 20 years of tiling experience but I'm thinking more like 20 days if that much. Amateurs selling themselves as professionals. He did have a nice business card though. Paul

Good capture.
He probably didn't like having his photo taken. Maybe that led to his mistakes, nervousness et al. ;-)

Nice angle! Green accent in the composition is nice. Shu

Amendment: I suppose that I see a problem or two in the laying of the grout, which I note with pride, you are making expert repairs to! Traveller

Wonderful Paul! This is all about you...lol...you may have let the tile guy go, but this is nice work in the shower...I like the choice of tile also. Still, you are right, this is...a boat load of work. Best Wishes, Traveller
